About the role

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Point, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our products by writing and owning the tests that help us ship with confidence. You will build automated tests, identify risks, and partner closely with Engineering and Product throughout the software development lifecycle.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you will develop and maintain automation across UI, API, and backend services, contribute to our testing frameworks, and help improve how we validate and release software. You will work alongside experienced Quality and Software Engineers, gaining exposure to modern testing practices, CI/CD, and AI-assisted development while helping teams deliver high-quality experiences to our customers.

Your responsibilities

• Write, maintain, and extend automated UI, API, and end-to-end tests within our existing test framework.

• Create and execute test strategies for product features, covering functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing based on risk.

• Partner with Software Engineers and Product teams during feature development to identify quality risks, edge cases, and testing requirements early in the development lifecycle.

• Keep tests running well in CI: debug pipeline failures in GitHub Actions, reduce run time where you can, and escalate systemic issues.

• Participate in ticket refinement and sprint planning with your product team, raising testability and edge-case concerns before code is written.

• Perform exploratory and risk-based manual testing on new features where automation is not yet the right tool, and convert what you learn into automated coverage.

• Use AI-assisted tooling to draft test cases, generate test data, and speed up test maintenance — reviewing and hardening what it produces rather than shipping it as-is.

• Write reusable page objects, fixtures, and helpers that fit the framework's existing patterns, and flag places where those patterns are not holding up.

• Contribute to release testing and regression cycles, and help track defect trends and coverage for your product area.

• Review other engineers' test code and take review feedback on your own, treating tests as production code.

About you

• 3+ years of experience in software quality engineering with hands-on test automation experience.

• Strong working proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript — you can read an unfamiliar codebase, follow its patterns, and add to it without hand-holding.

• Hands-on experience with a modern automation framework (Playwright preferred; Cypress or Selenium experience translates) across both UI and API testing.

• Comfortable working in Git and CI/CD — you have debugged your own failing pipeline runs and understand why a test passes locally and fails in CI.

• Experience testing APIs and backend services in addition to browser-based applications.

• Solid understanding of software testing fundamentals, including functional, integration, regression, exploratory, and end-to-end testing.

• Some hands-on use of AI/LLM-assisted tools in your testing or development workflow, and clear judgment about where their output needs review.

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to building quality into the software development lifecycle.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript.Experience with API, integration, component, or contract testing.

• Experience testing AI-enabled product features, or evaluating LLM output quality.

• Familiarity with observability tooling (logs, traces, dashboards) for investigating production issues.

• Any contribution to shared testing tooling, internal documentation, or a team's testing practices beyond your own tickets.

Compensation at Point will be determined by skills, experience, and geographic location.

• CAD 93,068 - 102,864

This does not include any other potential components of the compensation package, including equity, benefits, and perks outlined above. At the offer stage, we use the signal we received from our interviews, coupled with your experience, location, and other job-related factors, to determine final compensation.
